Abstract

Kajian bertajuk “Bumi yang Mendidih: Eksperimen Tanah Liat sebagai Ledakan Kreativiti dan Manifesto Artistik” ini meneroka potensi tanah liat sebagai medium eksplorasi dan refleksi dalam pembentukan identiti serta kesedaran artistik dalam kalangan seniman kontemporari. Objektif utama kajian ini adalah untuk memahami bagaimana penglibatan eksperimen terhadap material tanah liat dapat menghasilkan manifestasi kreatif yang bukan sahaja bersifat teknikal tetapi juga falsafah, sekali gus meletakkan studio sebagai ruang penciptaan artistik dan penyelidikan epistemologi. Kajian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif berasaskan amalan studio yang merangkumi beberapa fasa eksperimen, termasuk penerokaan sumber tanah liat tempatan, proses pembentukan dan pembakaran pada pelbagai suhu, serta pemerhatian reflektif terhadap transformasi material yang berlaku. Data dikumpul melalui jurnal visual, catatan refleksi, dan dokumentasi proses bagi menelusuri hubungan antara tindakan kreatif, respons material, dan pembinaan makna diri. Dapatan kajian menunjukkan bahawa interaksi berterusan antara seniman dan material tanah liat telah mencetuskan proses transformasi yang memperdalam pemahaman estetik, ekspresi diri, dan makna simbolik material tersebut. Tanah liat diinterpretasikan sebagai metafora “bumi yang mendidih” lambang tenaga, transformasi, dan kebangkitan kesedaran kreatif. Ledakan kreatif yang terhasil berjaya melampaui batas konvensional seni, sekali gus memperkukuh kedudukan eksperimen material sebagai manifesto artistik dan epistemologi alternatif dalam wacana seni kontemporari. Kesimpulannya, kajian ini menegaskan bahawa eksperimen tanah liat berfungsi sebagai bentuk pengetahuan artistik yang menggabungkan dimensi teknikal, spiritual, dan intelektual dalam proses penciptaan seni, serta memperlihatkan peranan studio sebagai ruang transformasi kreatif dan pembentukan jati diri artistik.

This study, titled “The Boiling Earth: Clay Experiments as an Explosion of Creativity and Artistic Manifesto,” explores the potential of clay as a medium of exploration and reflection in the formation of identity and artistic awareness among contemporary artists. The main objective of this study is to understand how experimental engagement with clay materials can produce creative manifestations that are not only technical but also philosophical, thus positioning the studio as a space for artistic creation and epistemological research. This study uses a qualitative approach based on studio practice that encompasses several experimental phases, including the exploration of local clay sources, the process of forming and firing at various temperatures, and reflective observations of the material transformation that occurs. Data were collected through visual journals, reflection notes, and process documentation to explore the relationship between creative actions, material responses, and the construction of self-meaning. The study findings show that the continuous interaction between artists and clay materials has triggered a transformational process that deepens the aesthetic understanding, self-expression, and symbolic meaning of the material. Clay is interpreted as a metaphor of “boiling earth” symbolizing energy, transformation, and the awakening of creative awareness. The resulting creative explosion successfully transcended the conventional boundaries of art, thus strengthening the position of material experimentation as an artistic manifesto and alternative epistemology in contemporary art discourse. In conclusion, this study asserts that clay experimentation functions as a form of artistic knowledge that combines technical, spiritual, and intellectual dimensions in the process of art creation, and demonstrates the role of the studio as a space for creative transformation and the formation of artistic identity.
